As a business traveler, it never occurred to me that so much of what I took for granted during my travels may be a luxury to others. Until my friend Heidi explained and suggested I collect certain toiletries laid out by the hotels I stayed in so they can be used by others in need. Soap - often in two sizes! - shampoo and body lotion. I brought them back and Heidi would collect them, sort them and when she had enough, she'd take them downtown and give them to a shelter. They went to good use by those served by the shelter.
The Give Back Project is about taking what my friend did on her own and moving it to a larger stage. Why not ask anyone who travels, business or pleasure, to bring home those excess toiletries and get them to one central location for sorting and distribution?
It's a simple act of charity that does not hurt the hotel because they expect those items to be replaced daily, so their cost is built into the visitor's stay. In fact, you can ask for extra soap or shampoo and well, let's just say that after more than 10 years of business travel, I've never been told no! Bring them home and get them to us - we'll get them to the organizations that will put them to good use.
Thanks so much for being engaged. Safe Travels and all the best.
